Head Coach: Rob Murray

Coach Murray is a 1992 graduate of Weston High School (Weston, MA) where he earned multiple All-Star selections in both baseball and football. He attended Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY) where he played four years of baseball for ABCA Hall of Fame coach George Valesente. During his college career, Coach Murray appeared in three NCAA DIV III New York Regionals (1993, 1994 and 1995) and two DIV III World Series (1993 and 1994). Coach Murray received NCAA NY Regional Tournament & All-League Honors, was named team captain and MVP during his senior season. Following his college career, Coach Murray signed professional contracts with the Richmond Roosters (Frontier League) and the Bangor Blue Ox (Northeast League). During the summer Coach Murray is head coach of the Southeast Region in the Bay State Games, where his teams won the Gold Medal in 2015 and the Bronze Medal in 2014, and is also head coach of the Nokona 18U College Commit Team. Coach Murray holds the title of Associate Scout (Northeast Region) for the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team and is the Assistant Athletic Director and an assistant football coach at Noble and Greenough School (Dedham, MA).

Assistant Coach: James Lagos

Coach Lagos is in his fourth season as pitching coach at Noble and Greenough School (Dedham, MA). He is a 1994 graduate of Millis High School (Millis, MA) where he earned All-Star selections in football, basketball and baseball. After high school, Coach Lagos attended CCRI (Warwick, RI) where he served as a pitcher for two seasons. Upon leaving CCRI, he attended Framingham State University (Framingham, MA). He has served as the Head Coach of Post 110 (Medfield, MA) American Legion Baseball and Assistant Coach for Post 335 Norfolk American Legion Baseball. During the summer Coach Lagos is the pitching coach for the Southeast Region in the Bay State Games and the assistant coach for the Nokona 18U College Commit Team.

15U Nokona Chiefs Prospects Team

  • Mike Lyon

Coach Lyon is a graduate of King Philip High School in Wrentham, MA, and a graduate of Northeastern University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He played four seasons at shortstop for Northeastern from 2004-2008. He was drafted in the 24th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft by the New York Yankees as a third baseman. He played two full seasons in the minor leagues from 2008-2010, and was an All-Star third baseman in 2008 for the Staten Island Yankees. He is currently in his sixth season as a coach, clinician and instructor with Nokona Baseball.

13U Nokona Braves Team

  • Justin O'Brien

Coach O'Brien is a 2004 graduate of King Phillip High School and a three-year varsity starter. Following high school, he attended Springfield College from 2004-2008, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. Coach O'Brien was a hard-throwing RHP during his high school and college tenure, and was a four-year starting pitcher for Springfield College. Coach O'Brien is a teacher in the Plainville Public School System. He is currently in his third season as a coach and has been working as a pitching instructor within the Nokona Baseball program for the past four years.

  • Brandon Anderson

Coach Anderson is a 2003 graduate of Wayland High School (Wayland, MA), where he excelled in both football and baseball. Following his senior season, he was drafted in the 41st round by the Colorado Rockies. After high school, Coach Anderson played two years of JUCO ball at Rowan College in Gloucester County where he was on the 2005 NJCAA National Championship team, earning All-Region honors twice. After Rowan, he transfered to Georgia College & State University where he was named a NCAA/ABCA All-American and a two-time Southeast All-Region selection. Following college, he played six years of professional baseball in the Frontier League. After pro ball, he decided to jump into the coaching ranks where he made stops at Concord-Carlisle High School (Concord, MA), Temple University (Philadelphia, PA) and is currently an assistant varsity coach at Noble and Greenough School (Dedham, MA). For the past three years Coach Anderson has also worked as a lead instructor and coach at the Winning Pitchers Academy in Framingham, MA. He will be available as a full-time instructor and will be stepping in to assist Coaches Gerry Carroll and Eric Schwartz on our 15U Chiefs Prospects team.

Coach Goldberg is a 2008 graduate of King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, MA where he was a four-year starter at SS. Following high school he played a post-graduate year at Worcester Academy, Worcester, MA and was an All-League All-Star selection at SS. He played his college baseball at Trinity College in Hartford, CT where he was a three-year starting pitcher until injuring his arm. He graduated from Trinity in 2013 with a BA in Political Science. Coach Goldberg has been a clinician for the Nokona Baseball program for three years; this is his first year as a coach.

Assistant Coach: Mike Ciummei

Coach Ciummei is a 2008 graduate of Phillips Academy High School in Andover MA, where he started at shortstop and was all-league during his senior year. Following high school he attended Bates College where he started at third base for four years and was captain during his senior year. Coach Ciummei graduated from Bates Collegde with a BA in economics and currently works in commercial real estate at JLL, a leading Boston-based real estate management and services company. This is his first year as a coach within the Nokona Baseball program.

14U Nokona Chiefs Team

  • Jeff Paulsen

Coach Paulsen is a 2003 graduate of Framingham High School, Framingham, MA where he was a four-year starter as a pitcher and outfielder. During his high school career, Coach Paulsen was a two-time Bay State First Team All-Star. After high school, he attended Georgia Southern University (Statesboro, GA) in 2004, where he was a walk-on player for the baseball team. He transferred to Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, NH), which he attended from 2005 to 2007, studying Business Management. At Franklin Pierce, Coach Paulsen played on a team that reached the College World Series. He played for two seasons in the New England Collegiate Baseball League for the Keene (NH) Swamp Rats. His leadership experience includes work a coach, clinician and instructor. He was an assistant coach in the Nokona Baseball program from 2009 to 2011, and has coached regional high school-level teams since then, including the Lincoln-Sudbury Senior Babe Ruth League 2015 Champions.

  • Matt Healy

Coach Healy is a 2001 graduate of Framingham High School (Framingham, MA) where he led off and started varsity for four years in RF.  Blessed with exceptional speed, Matt followed H.S and enrolled at Quinsigamond College where he was a second team All-American his freshman year.  He led off for the Chiefs with a .442 average ranking top ten in the nation and led his team to the College World Series in 2002.  Unfortunately, an injury following his freshman year ended Matt's baseball career.  Matt is in his first year with Nokona Baseball and is also the strength and conditioning trainer at the Nokona Athletic Club.

  • Steve Simoes

Mr. Simoes is a graduate of Notre Dame High School, West Haven, CT where he lettered in baseball, hockey and football. He was recruited to play baseball at Boston College, where he was a four-year starting third baseman. In 1985 he graduated from BC with a Bachelor of Science degree from The Carroll School of Management. He has held various head coaching and assistant coaching positions and has received many honors throughout his career; during the periods 1992-1995 and 1997-2011, he was the head baseball coach at Hopkinton High School, Hopkinton, MA. In 2004 his Hopkinton team won a state championship; Mr. Simoes was named Metrowest Daily News Coach of the Year and also 2004 ABCA National Coach of the Year. From 2005-2007, he served as Hitting and Infield Coach for the College of Holy Cross, Worcester, MA and was Head Coach for Millis High School, Millis, MA from 2011-2013. He is a Hopkinton resident and has been a teacher at Hopkinton High School for the past 23 years in AP Government & Politics. Mr. Simoes has worked for a number of years as a clinician in the Nokona Baseball program, as a hitting instructor, catching clinician and infield clinician.

16U Nokona Chiefs Prospects Team

  • Gerry Carroll

Coach Carroll is a 1981 graduate of Holliston High School, Holliston, MA where he lettered in football, hockey and baseball. He attended Providence College from 1982-1986 where he graduated with a BS in Management. He lettered in baseball during all four years with The Friars, and was named Most Valuable Player during his senior season. He also was named to the All-District NCAA Baseball Team, the All-ECAC Division I Team, and the Big East First Team. Coach Carroll is currently in his fifth season as a coach, clinician and instructor for Nokona Baseball. Beyond his duties as coach, he also is a managing partner in Nokona Baseball.

  • Brandon Anderson

Coach Anderson is a 2003 graduate of Wayland High School (Wayland, MA), where he excelled in both football and baseball. 14U Nokona Braves Team

  • Keith Wasserboehr

Coach Wasserboehr is a 2006 graduate of Reading Memorial High School, Reading MA, a 2014 graduate—with high honors—from Middlesex Community College and a 2016 graduate from Tufts University with a degree in Clinical Psychology. At Tufts, Coach Wasserboehr was the first recipient of the ROTC/Veterans Scholarship, presented to a veteran who is an exemplary student. He was also an active member in Tufts’ REAL Program (Resumed Education for Adult Learners.) His efforts in advocating for veterans at Tufts University directly contributed to four future veteran Jumbos starting Fall ’16. Keith is a five-year veteran of the United States Navy. He was stationed on Whidbey Island, WA as an aviation mechanic. Coach Wasserboehr did two tours of duty overseas in Bahrain and Qatar directly supporting OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom), OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and OND (Operation New Dawn). During his last deployment, he was in direct support of the last P-3 flight operation conducted for OIF. He currently works at McLean Hospital, one of the top psychiatric hospitals in the country, as a Clinical Residence Counselor. Coach Wasserboehr played both baseball and football while attending high school and during his time in the United States Navy. For the last two seasons Keith has been a 14U head coach for TMB (Team Massachusetts Baseball), an AAU team. Coach Wasserboehr is an avid learner and researcher in the field of psychology, and plans to obtain his Doctorate Degree in Psychology. He and his wife Tanya currently reside in Billerica, MA.

Coach Schwartz is a 1981 graduate of Needham High School, Needham, MA, a 1985 graduate of Brown University and a 1990 graduate of Harvard Business School. He is the Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach at Wayland High School, Wayland, MA (2012-present) and is in his third year as a coach in the Nokona Baseball program.

16U Nokona Braves Prospects Team

  • Tony Gonzalez

Coach Gonzalez is a Framingham native who graduated from Framingham High School (Framingham, MA) in 2001. He played football and baseball during his high school years; Framingham won the state high school football Super Bowl in 2000. An adept multi-sport athlete, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 16th Round of the 2001 draft. He attended Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA) on a football scholarship, and graduated from BC in 2006. He currently teaches at Framingham High School, where he also coaches football, baseball and basketball. The Nokona Baseball program is extremely pleased to welcome such a diverse, talented, experienced and committed athlete and instructor to its coaching roster.

  • Mike Russo

Coach Mike Russo will join Coach Gonzalez as Co-Coach for this year's 16U Nokona Braves team. Coach Russo is a 2008 graduate of Natick High School (Natick, MA) where he lettered in football, track, and baseball. He attended Endicott College (Beverly, MA) from 2008-2012 where he graduated with a degree in History. He lettered in baseball during all four years with the Natick High Gulls, and was named captain for his senior year. He was also named honorable mention All Conference during his freshmen year, and Second Team All Conference his senior year. Coach Russo is in his fifth year teaching History at Natick High School, and also serves as an assistant football and baseball coach. This is coach Russo's first year with the Nokona Baseball Program.

13U Nokona Chiefs Team

  • Dan Sullivan

Coach Sullivan is a 2002 graduate of Ashland High School, Ashland, MA where he was a Tri Valley League and MetroWest All-Star as a RHP and SS. He was a team captain and was named a member of the 2000 state championship team. He went on to graduate from the University of Connecticut (2007) with a BA in History. Since graduating from UConn, Coach Sullivan has coached nine years of high school baseball (seven in Ashland, MA and two in Hopkinton, MA) and nine years of high school football (four in Ashland and five in Hopkinton). He also has nine years of AAU head coaching experience. Coach Sullivan has served as the manager of Ashland Legion baseball for the past five years, leading Post 77 to two sectional championship appearances. He has worked at various baseball facilities in the Metro West area as both a hitting and pitching instructor. Coach Sullivan prides himself on being both a lifelong student and engaging teacher of the game of baseball; he is currently in his sixth season with Nokona Baseball as a coach, clinician and instructor.

Assistant Coach Scott Soderberg will work with Coach Sullivan on development of the 13U Nokona Chiefs team. Coach Soderberg is a graduate of Framingham State University, Framingham, MA, and has been a teacher for 25 years in the Ashland, MA school system. He has coached American Legion Baseball with Milford MA, Marlboro MA, and for the past 19 years with Ashland High School. He led Maynard High School (Maynard MA) to four straight league titles, two sectional finals and one sectional title. He coached the 11U Nokona Chiefs team to titles in tournaments in Delaware and New Hampshire, and led them to the Elite Baseball League title in 2013. Coach Soderberg is an avid historian of baseball in America, its influence on society, and its positive impact on the development of skills and leadership qualities in young athletes.

10U Nokona Chiefs Team

  • Eric Rodriguez

Coach Rodriguez is a 2007 graduate of Burlington High School, Burlington, MA, where he was a three-year varsity starter. He went on to play his college baseball at UMass/Dartmouth where he was a catcher and graduated with a degree in Marketing in 2011. He has spent the last six seasons coaching baseball in the New England area—and with great success: In 2014, his 14U team finished their season with an amazing 51-9 record and captured a bronze medal at the USA Baseball 14U Cup in Cary, NC. Eric has also guided his teams to EBL Championships at the 14U, 15U, and 18U age group levels in 2012, 2014 & 2015. He has seen many of his players go on to play in college at the Division I, II, and III levels—some of whom are playing in the most prestigious summer leagues in the country today. He joined the Nokona program in 2015. "Nokona Baseball is pleased to announce the addition of Eric Rodriquez to its staff. Eric is an extremely talented coach, communicator and teacher, and we are very excited to have him join us", said Nokona Baseball Founder Geoff Cuneo. Coach Rodriguez is employed at Oracle Corporation in Burlington, MA. He and his wife currently reside in Salem, NH.
