Nokona Baseball Training
Becoming a top baseball player is not easy and does not happen without hard work, dedication and sacrifice. All of our staff strive to place the team before the individual during winter workouts and the spring / summer seasons. This collective spirit is a key ingredient to helping youth players learn invaluable life skills that will benefit them both on and off the field. To achieve those collective goals, baseball requires players to individually combine traditional athletic talents such as strength, speed, and power with a very specific set of skills that are not found in other sports. Nokona Baseball encourages all players to incorporate multiple practice and training methods individually in addition to team activities to become the very best they can be in baseball and all their future endeavors. Both team and individual training methods and principals are described on this page starting with the fall offseason and progressing chronologically through summer baseball.
-
Training Principals:
-
- Improve your skills by practicing them frequently. Avoid a long layoff at the conclusion of the previous season which results in the need to get back into 'baseball shape'.
-
- Strive to practice perfectly. Develop a regular workout schedule designed for quality over quantity.
-
- Use video to make yourself a better baseball player. Seeing your own technique is invaluable to proper mechanics.
-
- Get physically stronger and you will improve as a baseball player. This will also help in all other sports and overall physical well-being.
-
- Work to develop a stronger and more accurate throwing arm. One of the most over-looked aspects of baseball training, arm conditioning is necessary for all players.

Fall & Winter Individual:
- Strength & conditioning program begins either at home, professionally with Cressey Performance, etc..., or both.
- If playing a fall sport, 1 to 2 workouts per week. If not playing, or a light schedule, 3 to 4 workouts per week.
- Swings and throwing at home or professionally multiple times per week. If able to play Fall Ball twice per week, add 1 more session.
- Individual Professional lessons to begin at earliest affordability and schedule allowance, but at least 5 lessons minimum during this period. Preferably many more on a regular basis.
- Start your winter throwing program by December at the latest, preferably earlier. Our most effective program is 26 weeks, which should be started in October.

Winter Team:
-
Defensive Clinic series attended by all players in December. Infield, Outfield, Catching. Progressive format with each session building off previous session.
-
Team practices January through March at DCB and EI facilities incorporating conditioning, hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, station work of all types.
-
Team practices January through March at BAC indoor field house / dome. Specifically designed for defense, live INF / OF and base running.
-
Pitching Clinics in March as additional arm & game conditioning just prior April opener. Progressive format with each session building off previous session.

Spring & Summer Individual:
-
Maintenance sessions as a reinforcement and corrections tool for proper mechanics. Usually Professional and if possible, video sessions. Hitting and Pitching specifically. These sessions are shorter and higher quality in nature. Perfect your mechanics.
Spring & Summer Team:
-
Regular Season Games, Tournaments and Playoffs. Schedules varying by age group.
10, 11, 12 age groups highly recommended to play in-town in spring to qualify for summer all-stars. Our program ends after playoffs and does not interfere with summer all stars.
13 & 14 age groups play from April through the summer months, typically ending in the last week of July or first week August depending on tournaments chosen.
For all above age groups, constant communication is mandatory regarding in-town or school pitching schedules. Pitch counts and days of rest are fully monitored.
15/16 Showcase starts after High School Baseball ends in late-May. Local games in early June as players return on differing schedules. Tournament play through Summer.
For all older players 14+, a variety of individual showcases are available at the conclusion of the summer season and at other times during the year.
