This framework also provides useful guidance for journalists on the kinds of news that can be more compelling to their audiences.
The term “magnitude” is often used to refer to large numbers, but it also refers to extreme occurrences and behaviours. Examples include extreme temperatures in an oven, extreme crime, and extreme behaviour. Another news value is exclusivity. Newspapers often highlight the fact that an event is exclusive, which can be perceived as newsworthy.
The use of this framework is helpful in testing theories about how news values are created. However, the story theory only explains a small proportion of news values. For instance, a story may lose its value if a newsroom decides to replace it with another more significant story.

For instance, journalists are now more likely to receive a Twitter mob when they discuss controversial topics. In addition, journalists are not aware of the “filter bubble,” which is a type of echo chamber.

To explore this, I develop a hierarchy of the “human interest economy,” based on the authenticity of the personal experience and the ability to attract attention.
