Entertaiment is anything that entertains. It can involve any activity – from private entertainment – such as watching a film or listening to music, through social gatherings and performances for thousands. Children engage in entertaining activities that prepare them for adult responsibilities such as child rearing or social interaction (playing with dolls, pets and group games); they may be entertained by performances on television, in the theatre, at a concert or at a video game. The power of entertaiment is shown by the way in which stories such as Scheherazade, a tale from the Persian professional storytelling tradition, inspire composers to create orchestral works, filmmakers to make films and innovative video games.
